After sitting and watching her husband for countless classes, Mrs. Lacy, the chief instructor at the Valley Ranch location, attended her first class in 1985. It was love at first kick! Within the first month of her training she won her first (of many) gold medals. She received her instructor certificate from the USTA in ’89 and earned her 3rd degree in ’91. A founding member of Taekwondo America, in addition to running the Valley Ranch she also runs the headquarters for the national organization. Her most recent accomplishment was receiving her 7th degree at the 2011 National Black Belt Conference held in Las Vegas, NV. These days Mrs. Lacy is the chief instructor, board breaking whisperer, ultimate ruler of the workout floor, and inventor of fun but semi-torturous workouts that the adult classes both love and fear. When she’s not at the school Mrs. Lacy loves cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide and spending time with her favorite dog, Caesar. She likes spending time with her husband, Mr. Robby Lacy, three children, and two other dogs too. Read Mrs. Lacy’s story, which was featured in the March 2012 Taekwondo America quarterly magazine, by clicking here.
Ms. Lacy began her official taekwondo career in 1999, but before that she spent thousands of hours at her parents’ taekwondo school and at taekwondo events listening and soaking in information. All of that time spent listening and learning formed the basis of a passionate lifelong quest for knowledge, understanding, and the desire to share everything she learns with others. Ms. Lacy earned her 1st Degree Black Belt and instructor certification before taking a sabbatical from taekwondo to attend the University of Virginia, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 2007. These days Ms. Lacy is the ultimate sender of emails (we promise you will almost never actually get one from Mrs. Lacy), liaison to the parents, newsletter creator, website designer, controller of the flow of information at the school, and ultimate ruler of the lobby.
Mr. Bobby Lacy, Level 4 Instructor, 4th Degree Senior Black Belt
Mr. Bobby Lacy started taekwondo in 1996 at the age 4 after continuously begging his parents to give him a white belt. Twenty years later and a big move from Roanoke, Virginia to Dallas, Texas, he is now a 4th Degree Senior Black Belt and Level 4 Instructor at Valley Ranch Taekwondo. He continues to train and endure Mrs. Lacy’s torture/teaching and plans to test for his 5th Degree Black Belt in May 2017. Mr. Lacy thoroughly enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with students of all ages and continues to learn from them to improve himself. Mr. Lacy is the maestro of the leadership team, substitute ruler of the lobby, substitute ruler of the workout floor, and led the Valley Ranch Taekwondo Demo Team to a 4th place finish at the 2016 Taekwondo America National Demo Team Competition. Mr. Lacy has a strong passion for martial arts education and plans to eventually open his own school.
Mr. Jacob Peek, Level 3 Instructor, 2nd Degree Senior Black Belt
Mr. Peek started taekwondo in June of 2009, and ever since, has loved it. He received his 1st Degree Decided Black Belt in April of 2012 and became an instructor in October of 2012.
Today, he loves helping with as many classes as he can and enjoys being at Valley Ranch Taekwondo. A fun and easy going instructor, Mr. Peek is also a student, who enjoys the thrill of competing in a tournament and cheering on his fellow teammates at testing.
After being forced by her parents to try taekwondo at age 8 to help build her confidence, little did that once very shy girl know how much taekwondo would soon become a major part of her life.
Erian began her taekwondo journey under the instruction of Mr. Bill Shaw. Almost two years later, Mrs. Lacy, Erian’s taekwondo idol and the person she had spent hours watching demos of online, became her chief instructor. Mrs. Lacy pushed Erian to become a better martial artist, and to be a role model to others.
Ms. Powers has come a long day since that first class in June 2010, competing in many tournaments and receiving multiple golds and a couple of near perfect scores along the way, but by far her favorite accomplishment thus far was the day she received her 1st Degree decided black belt. Although receiving her black belt was a great moment, being named Mrs. Lacy’s first ever Valley Ranch Taekwondo student of the Year comes in a very close second!
These days, Erian continues to work to become a better student and instructor. When school is not in session, you can almost always find her at the taekwondo school, otherwise she enjoys playing volleyball and band for her school, playing video games and of course shopping!!
